Round in Review rd17

by admin on February 28, 2016

In the penultimate round of men’s pennants many sides would have been working extra hard. Whether it’s taking those final steps to win a finals place, make automatic promotion, lock up home green advantage for finals or stave off relegation many sides had lots to play for. All the extra effort has led to some big scores and round 17, so although unfortunately women’s finals were heated out there’s still plenty to talk about.
This week’s largest aggregate victory was a staggering 81 shot win by Cannington/Mills Park in 4th Division Red. Two rinks, those skippered by Reinhard Eberius and Gregory Dickerson had equal division high scores of 38-6 and did the majority of the damage in 123-42 win. Phillip Harris and his team also recorded a double digit margin with a thirteen shot win. With all eight points Cannington/Mills Park maintain their first place in the division and their buffer over Armadale in second.
This week’s biggest rink win belongs to the Spearwood rink of Ken Nadilo, Nikola Sokol, Denis Tomasich and Ivan Petkovich in 2nd Division Red. Their 37 shot victory was instrumental in setting up Spearwood’s 57 shot overall victory. The scale of the win has also moved the rink into fifth place on the 2nd Red skip ladder thanks to the shots up boost secured by the win. They were ably supported by their teammates, picking up seven and a half points valuable points as they seek promotion. It sets up a massive clash between the two sides in the last round with Armadale needing either seven and a half or eight points to take spot, get automatic promotion and play for the pennant.
Kardinya may have broken or at least tied a record with one rink in their 1st Division White side over the last couple of weeks. It has come to our attention that the rink of Terry Ball, Norm Ball, Steven Adams and Daniel Adams may hold the record for the least number of surnames in one rink. With the only way to better it being all four members of the rink having the same surname it is highly likely that this rink is at least a joint record holder.
