Capel team win Augusta Ladies Carnival

by admin on March 1, 2016

The Augusta Ladies Split Fours carnival was held on the 13th & 14th February 2016, in a gentle breeze for Augusta, that being strong wind anywhere else.
The carnival was sponsored by the Flinders Bay Corporation trading as the Augusta Hotel Hamelin Bay tourist Park and Miss Flinders River Boat.  The winners received a package of 5 nights’ accommodation in an Ocean Beach cottage at Hamelin Bay Holiday Resort valued at $950 along with $100 cash each.  Co-sponsor this year was Whirlwind Olives, a local olive farm who not only contributed cash but also two generous and very popular raffle packages.
96 players representing clubs from all over the South West provided some fierce competition whilst at the same time enjoying great camaraderie and lost of laughs.
A new slant on the traditional “Spider” to begin the competition was the introduction of the “Firies Helmet”.  A donation from participating players gave them the chance to “Hit the Helmet”.  This bit of frivolity raised the amount of $30 for the current Fire Relief Fund.
After a great day of bowls and a few refreshing drinks the players enjoyed the ever popular entertainment once again brought to us from the Eaton Ladies.  The crowd was enthralled when amongst the jungle vines these musicians performed the “Titarzan” skit.  This brought the house down and capped off a perfect day.
Final competition winners were the Capel, pictured above (Kerry Scott, Margaret Savickis, Dawn Costello and Bev McKenna) followed by Binningup and Manjimup.  All of these teams only lost one game each.
This two day event has gained popularity over the past 5 years and proof of this is the fact that nominations have already been received and confirmed for 2017 competition.
Anyone wishing to nominate for next year would be well advised to be the early bird.
