WA performing well at Senior Sides

played at Osborne Park BC Oct 10-13 Western Australia has made a strong start to the Australian Senior Sides Championships at Osborne Park with three wins from their first four games.
The hosts lead the competition after two rounds in the men’s competition courtesy of strong wins over the ACT and Northern Territory.
The women’s side were beaten by surprised table toppers ACT Monday afternoon but recovered to beat the Northern Territory on Tuesday morning.
Graham Evans rink leads the rink ladder with two wins with a combined margin 35 whilst Gary Caffell’s side is second with +18 shots. Robbie Ball is currently one win and loss following a defeat against the Northern Territory.
For the women Kaye Blackwell leads the way, her rinks two wins and +23 shots the second best record in the competition. Kathy Gobbart has one win while Lee Poletti is yet to get off the mark.
The men were convincing winners over the ACT with a 34 shot win. Evans picked up a 19th end eight as part of their 19 shot win whilst both other rinks picked up good wins to start the tournament.
The women suffered an upset against the ACT with only Kaye Blackwell recording a win. 
The men backed up their performance with a 22 shot win over the Northern Territory Despite Ball’s loss Evans and Caffell comfortably carried the aggregate with 12 and 16 shot wins respectively.
The women recovered thanks to another good performance from the Blackwell rink with an impressive 20 shot win.
A ten shot victory to Gobbart ensured WA won the match finishing 27 shots in front.
New South Wales are surprisingly winless in the men’s competition suffering narrow defeats to South Australia and Queensland while Tasmania have started strongly with two wins.
The ACT lead the women’s event chased closely by New South Wales whose two wins were by a combined margin of seven.
Victoria have made a surprisingly poor start with no wins as yet.
