Edition 5 Upsets and close finishes We get to kick the round seven round up off with a badge which came out 4th Division on Tuesday. Mt Pleasant’s rink of Joy Moore, Harry Morgan (sub), Laurel Stewart and Val Flowers picked up an eight en route 49-8 win which carried the aggregate to ensure Mt Pleasant remained on top of the ladder and undefeated for another week.
Getting back to the team aspect of things it was a very interesting week in 2nd Blue on Tuesday as the bottom four sides played each other. The result is a complete reversal in fortunes as both the bottom two won to get themselves out of the relegation zone. Cambridge are now off the bottom and into eight courtesy of back to back wins while Quinns Rocks have remarkably jumped from ninth to fifth. Fifth and bottom are separated by just two and a half points so the next few games will be vitally important for all teams in that lower part of the table.
We also had an eventful derby on Tuesday in 3 Blue when the two Warwick sides played each other. Warwick 1 were undefeated in second and just half a point away from top coming into the game while Warwick 2 sat in fifth having won half their games. As it so often is with local derbies the lower ranked side pulled off an upset winning by seven shots and handed their club mates their first defeat of the year. It brings Warwick 2 up into third however they’re still 10.5 points behind the club mates.
The biggest upset of the week however has to be Kardinya’s win over Dalkeith Nedlands in 2nd Red on Saturday. Kardinya beat the league leaders to move off the bottom of the ladder and within just two points of safety. Unfortunately for Dalkeith the loss sees them fall to second and makes the top half of the ladder very congested in the search for automatic promotion.
We also received a couple of reports of some close matches occurring in pennants. In 1st Division Blue Saturday ladies the top of the ladder Scarborough ventured out to Bedford where the result was a drawn aggregate after both rinks played out a draw. The scores were 18-18 and 15-15.
Just as close but over a few more rinks in Men’s Saturday 2nd Division Blue Sorrento and Valley fought out a memorable draw. Remarkably two rinks were drawn and only one shot separated the other two.
Sorrento vs Valley 77-77
Rink 1 Sorrento 20 – Valley 19
Rink 2 Sorrento 18 – Valley 18
Rink 3 Sorrento 20 – Valley 21
Rink 4 Sorrento 19 – Valley 19
