Consistency the key for Abe, Matthews and Hogg

Women’s Over 60’s Triples Wrap Noelene Abe, Liz Matthews and Sue Hogg have won the State Over 60 Women’s Triples final played at Osborne Park today.
They defeated Dudley Park’s Irene Grout, Tanya Groves and Beryl Gobbart 16-13.
It was a strong first half for Grout as her side won six of the opening nine ends to lead 9-5.
Lead Beryl Gobbart was often first to the jack making life difficult for Abe’s side.
The 10th end changed the game however with Abe playing a beautiful bowl to sit a bowl for three shots.
All of a sudden they were only a shot behind and they made the most of their opportunity by taking the lead for the first time with two on the next end.
Matthews started to work her way into the game with a strong second half and Hogg was always around the place to give Abe plenty to work with.
It took a fantastic bowl by Grout to retake the lead as she landed a bowl for shot three down on 15th.
It was only a 12-13 lead though and it was the last end the Dudley Park girls would win as Abe’s side scored four shots across a tense last three ends to win 16-13.
It was a reversal of the first half as Abe’s side won six of the last nine ends.
The difference was consistency which allowed them to get more out of their half than Grout’s side.
It was the second time the two teams had met in as many years with Abe defeating Grout in the first sectional game last year.
It’s a first Over 60’s title for both Matthews and Hogg but not their first win together.
The pair won the open triples event together in the 2016/17 season.
It’s a second title for Abe and her second final of the season having made the pairs final with Wendy Stower in November.
This would make her the current favourite for Over 60’s Female Bowler of the Year with two events left to be played.
