Men’s IZRR Results
South Western Zone champions The South Western Zone shone brightest to claim the Men’s Inter Zone Round Robin title for 2017-18 hosted by Dalwallinu Bowling Club last weekend February 10-11.
After two rounds of competition all four zones where in contention with one win and one loss so the last round of play was critical to decide the winner. The South West Zone claimed the title with a mammoth 112-78 shot win over the Eastern Zone. This was spearheaded by Mark Simpson’s rink winning 31-10 along with Ben Garrett 27-14. Both those players were subsequently named in the Country All Stars side which is the traditional opener to Country Week on Thursday March 1st at Osborne Park Bowling Club.
Also named for the Country All Stars was the entire rink from the South West skipped by Matt Pennington. This rink was the only undefeated team for the weekend with 3 wins +24 shots which included his brother Scott Pennington (third), Gary Rundle (second) and Don Rogers (lead).
Hosts Northern Zone finished runner up after a strong win over third placed Southern Zone with Eastern in fourth.
