The Small Metropolitan Club of the Year for 2018 is Quinns Rocks Bowling Club.
Big things have been happening at Quinns as they have built themselves into the local community with a successful social bowls programs and other activities.
The award was accepted by members Shane Smith and Chris Parr at the Bowls WA Awards Night in May.
Quinns Rocks have worked very hard to engage with their local community and now pack out their Jack Attack every week.
Shane Smith spoke of the success of the social bowls program when accepting the award.
“We’ve been running corporate bowls for about five or six years now and we get two green-fulls up there every Thursday night and we put on a great meal up at the club,” Mr Smith said.
Quinns have also began to set up a junior program which culminated in a junior singles tournament towards the end of the season.
Three of their juniors went on to represent the club at the state under 18s in April.
Mr Smith was fundamental in setting up the program and urged clubs to get juniors involved for the good of the sport.
“I thought as a club we needed to look at the junior’s competition and its something that we, and myself, I’m pretty passionate about,” he said.
“To all you clubs out there get the juniors into the game and the whole sport will go forwards leaps and bounds.”
Quinns Rocks also engaged with people in their area by hosting night markets, various parties and presentation nights as well as having numerous groups come in to use the greens.
The club also completed several improvement projects around the clubhouse to cater for their members and visitors.
Its clear that Quinns is a club on the rise, so much so they are considering adding another green, going against the current trend.
Shane Smith said the Small Metro Club of the Year Award belonged to every member of the club.
