Southern Zone win Women’s IZRR Fours
Halls Head Bowling Club hosted the Women’s Inter Zone Round Robin Fours this weekend in what was a very even contest across the four Country Zones each represented by five rinks of players.

In Round 1 Southern Zone beat the South Western Zone on all five rinks with Ronnie Lee, Kaye Blight, Bev Davidson and Jade O’Neill having an outstanding 31-13 win.
In the other fixture Eastern Zone were to strong for Northern Zone with Sian Smith, Nola Chataway, Mary Smith and Susan Collins winning 29-11.
Round 2 saw the two first round winners shaping up against each other with Southern Zone coming out on top of Eastern Zone with a last bowl victory 87- 85. Beryl Cooper, Ollie Austin, Trish Tyson Rachel McDonald were the big winners 27-14.
The second fixture saw Northern Zone come away with the win over South Western. Jill Adam, Jess Enright, Fiona Panting and Karyn Bryan and Di Hudson had the biggest win in a tight contest 25-19.
It looked clear sailing for Southern going into the final round undefeated but the Northern Zone had other ideas as they came out firing to take the aggregate 95-86 this morning led by Kathy Gobbart, Noelene Keeffe, Marg Johnson, and Eva Watson 26-10.
In the other Fixture, the winless South Western Zone put paid to Eastern Zones’ chances with a strong aggregate victory 136-58. The outstanding rink for South Western was Yvonne Coffey, Jenny Campbell, Wendy Wilson, and Val Wyld 37-12.
With both Southern Zone and Northern Zone on two wins each it came down to the all-important rink wins. The Southern Zones’ strong first day was enough to carry them to the Championship with 10 rink wins to Northern Zones’ 7.5.
Showing the evenness of the competition only the Southern Rink of Beryl Cooper, Ollie Austin, Trish Tyson Rachel McDonald manage to win across all three rounds of competition.
