As we move closer towards the new season, Byford Bowling Club played host to multiple special guests, handing out some invaluable coaching, information and advice for the upcoming season. Thursday 21st September, over 60 members attended the event with the doors open for any members from any Club – a brilliant turnout considering Byford has roughly 100 members in total.

Byford & Districts Country Club organized a full lunch at no cost with Byford BC bringing in Morning Tea.

The attendees were spoilt with advice from guest presenters Steve Glasson, Tony Hockey and Sue Hogg.

Frank Jones, President of Byford BC, started the day with welcoming everyone to the Club and introduced the event:

Steve Glasson

Steve Glasson, former Australian Jackaroos Coach, offered a range of tips and advice for the members emphasizing the importance of managing pressure, mental toughness, pre-shot routines and more. Additionally Steve is BCIB’s account manager for Byford and BCIB is Byford’s Insurance provider.

Tony Hockey

Tony Hockey, last years’ WA Coach, gave his insight into the importance of coaching and training; why you should use coaches, what their aim is and why you should practice with purpose instead of only roll ups.

Sue Hogg

Sue Hogg the Chairman of Umpires presented the nitty gritty, giving the attendees insight into the rules of Bowls – all the do’s and don’t’s.

Volunteers of the Month

Awards for recent Volunteers of the Month were handed out at the event celebrating a huge part of what makes up the Bowls Community . From left to Right; Richard Kopacz, Trish Collins, Les Harris, Brad Aram.

Trish Collins, Secretary of Byford, commented on the success, and provided photos of the day:

“It was an awesome day, we all learnt so much. There were over 60 members which was a fantastic turnout, it was amazing. All the presenters were fabulous but Steve Glasson with his playing experience and coaching knowledge just bought so much to our group of players that I’m sure it will set us up for a great season.”

A fantastic initiative from Byford, providing some amazing value to its members and beyond. Look out for Byford this season, armed with some great knowledge, they might just be that bit harder to beat!
