Top two finishes a chance for WA

by Clive Adams on October 10, 2023

A big day three at Joondalup today, as the moving rounds of the Australian Senior Sides Series saw WA end the day in the top four of both competitions with just one round to play tomorrow.

WA Women’s Senior State Team

A very solid day for the WA women, with a narrow loss to New South Wales in the morning backed up by a big finish to secure an important win over the ACT in the afternoon. WA now sits third on the table, and whilst top placed NSW is beyond WA’s reach, a clean sweep victory over Victoria tomorrow will see WA finish second on the table.

In an incredibly even performance across the rinks, all three rinks sit in the top 10 in the competition having all won 4 of their six matches.

WA Men’s Senior State Team

A fantastic day for our Men’s team with two wins from the two matches played. The first was a nailbiter with WA looking home, only to see NSW challenge late. It came down to some last bowl aggression from Chris Lander which connected with the jack and saw WA home by three shots overall. Two double figure victories then saw the locals home comfortably over the ACT.

Queensland have sealed victory in the Men’s competition, however courtesy of WA’s draw with Queensland yesterday, second place is now within reach. WA would need to defeat Victoria tomorrow, and then needs New South Wales to defeat South Australia.

Remarkably, like the Women’s team, WA’s rinks are all very even in performance. All three have won three of their matches and sit within just a few shots up of each other.

Tomorrow

It’s WA versus Victoria as WA tries to clinch the highest places on the table possible. All the action gets underway at Joondalup at 8.30am, so let’s get plenty of WA support there to cheer our teams home.
