WA Women’s Open and Over 60’s State Teams Announced
The Women’s Open and Over 60’s State Sides have been selected for the National Side Series at the Devonport Country Club, Tasmania.
The Women’s Open Side will see two players make their debut for the WA Women’s Open Side in 2025.
Sally Wilke comes into the side after a strong performance in the Women’s State Pairs and as part of the Saturday 1st Division Blue North Perth side promoted to 1st Division White. Sally will play second for the strong Kristina Van Nierup (Krstic) rink. Chris Ace-Watson and Lisa Smith played third and lead respectively to Kristina last year and will continue in those positions.
Bridget Michell will also suit up for WA for the first time. Bridget started the season strong being a part of the winning State Fours team and finished strong as well with a runner-up in the recently concluded Champion of Champion Singles Championship. Bridget will lead for the returning Laura Butler. Laura had to sit out of the side for the past 2 years due to her Switzerland representation at the World Champs. While there was no doubt that Laura would return, Laura showed how important she will be to the team, by taking out last year’s Australian Open Singles. After taking out the best players award in last year’s Nationals, Shari Solly will play Third and Lisa Brannan returns in her customary Seconds position.
Lisa Featherby will be in charge of a WA rink once again and will have 2025 State Pairs Champion Denise Kelly as her third. Helen Stevens will take the seconds position and Jenny Parker, also the 2025 State Pairs Champion, will play in the lead position.
The WA Women’s Over 60’s team has seen quite a number of changes from last year’s team with six players coming into the team for the first time and one returning player.
Last year’s best-player award winner, Pam Chalmers, continues in the Skip position and will have Sian Smith as her Third once more. Irene Leahy continues in the side in the Seconds position with Toni Madigan as the Lead making her debut in the Over 60’s team. Toni has the added experience of previously being in the Open team a few years ago.
Rhonda Prosser steps up into the Skip position after being a third last year. Lexie Webster will debut in the Over 60’s as the Third, but has previous Open Team experience. Kerry Hutchinson also comes into the team for the first time and will play Second, while the returning Helen Heal will play as the Lead, a position she knows very well.
Linda Warburton will again Skip the Over 60’s team and will take three debutants to Tasmania with her. Kerry West will play Third after putting her name forward with strong performances in the trails and at country week. Kerrie Hudson also trialled extremely well and will relish the Seconds performance and Karen Gaglia fresh from her Champion of Champion Singles win rounds out a great rink in the Lead position.
