Yarloop back in business
Bowls Carnival re-opening fundraiser Yarloop Bowling Club is hosting a Lightning Triples Bowling Carnival as the club and town look to rebuild after the devastating bush fires which swept through the town and surrounding areas in January earlier this year.
Speaking with Club President Ron Sackville he mentioned that the town and the bowling club were very much looking forward to getting back to business.
“Yarloops recovery has been very slow but it looks like the town will open again soon.” He said.
“This will allow many damaged remaining houses to be repaired and occupants return. Some rebuilding has started and we understand quite a few building applications with the Harvey Shire are ready to start. There were 197 houses destroyed in the fire. It will take a long time for the town which is the lifeblood of our club to recover.”
Although the bowling club managed to escape the clutches of the fire but it has still had an obvious big impact.
“We have consequently lost bowlers who lost everything and did not want to come back so we have reduced our membership to $90 and would welcome new bowlers. Our social membership has been made free to help all the locals. Our damaged carpet is about to be replaced so as our last lightning pairs ALCOA carnival was played on a brand new surface this one will be also.”
Ron will no doubt be pretty happy when bowlers start taking to the green again.
“The opportunity to run our Yarloop’s Back In Business carnival gives us a great start to our season and it is our hope the club will come out of the bush fire disaster stronger and remain one of the best places to bowl in Country WA.”
Players interested in entering should do so now as the event is expected to be extremely well supported. Some good sponsorship means some excellent prize money will be on offer.
