Introducing Winning Drive

by Kaitlin Tyrrell on December 7, 2018

Bowls WA is pleased to announce the commencement of a targeted club development program, Winning Drive. A new initiative, Bowls WA hopes that the Winning Drive program will bring a structured approach to club development for bowling clubs in Western Australia as well as providing support to the country regions.

Winning Drive is a program that aims to help clubs improve their management and governance by educating those in leadership positions on the best practice operations for their clubs.

Clubs in country areas in particular will find this program of interest as it will provide them with support that Bowls WA has been unable to provide and hopefully the first step in more support for country clubs in Western Australia.

Bowls WA has received a State Government Every Club Grant to help fund the project, as well as partnering with Clubs WA, the Western Australian Sports Federation’s Top Club program, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and AFL Sports Ready along with the support of Bowls Australia, to deliver the program.

Training courses will be conducted in regional areas throughout the year during times that suit the region and they aim to aid in the development of clubs by providing training and consultation to club leaders and officials.

Clubs will need to complete a number of actions in order to become Winning Drive certified, including, completing a strategic plan or Top Club session, updating of constitution and policies, attending training workshops and scheduling an annual meeting with their Regional Bowls Manager. Clubs will also have access to a dedicated Club Resource Guide via the Bowls WA Website which will provide further information and resources to aid in club development.

Bowls WA have appointed a junior staff member Kaitlin Tyrrell to the role of Club Development Coordinator who will assist Bowls WA Operations Manager Aaron Delaporte and the Regional Bowls Managers Clive Adams (North/East) and Steve Unsworth (South) along with the program partners whose role it is to deliver the program to clubs.

Further information will be provided to clubs and country leagues however they can pre-register their interest by email to kaitlin@bowlswa.com.au

Bowls WA hopes to see a large uptake from clubs throughout Western Australia.
