Men’s midweek Pennant Finals
BCiB Midweek Pennants Wrap The last of the BCiB Metropolitan Pennant Finals was completed yesterday with the Men’s Midweek Pennant finals wrapping up yet another fantastic year of bowls across metro WA. Another seven pennant flags were handed out in grand finals with many other clubs retaining or gaining promotion for 2016/17.
In the Premier League Bassendean continued their outstanding season backing up the Saturday Pennant with a Mid Week one – nine players sharing in the unique achievement winning both flags. This is the fourth time in five seasons that the Bassendean top side in Midweek Pennants has taken home the flag. Although it was tight most of the game Bassendean playing at their home ground just held the edge and managed to win all three rinks on the day by 4, 4 and 1 for a 9 shot aggregate victory over a determined Manning. Also playing off at Bassendean was the 1 Blue final with Sorrento doing a demolition job on Gosnells winning 81-37. The rinks skippered by Martin and Lander having a field day getting home 35-6 and 27-11 respectively.
The story of the day occurred at Innaloo where the home side battled it out with Cockburn for the 1st White flag. When the dust settled after the scheduled 63 ends of play aggregate scores were level so all rinks went out and played an extra end. Innaloo finally coming out on top with a one shot aggregate win. The sole winning rink for Innaloo being John Berecz, Ben Poggi, Richard Aitken and Robert Munday who won 24-15.
Other flags were taken out by Sorrento (2nd Division), Valley (3rd Division), Dalkeith-Nedlands (4th Division), Mundaring (5th Division) and Roleystone (6th Division).
