The development and under-18 teams took centre stage in the morning session on day two with the singles and fours disciplines played and contrary to yesterday’s action, New Zealand came out on top in the eight matches completed winning five of them. New Zealand won the both singles encounters against the Aussies in the development contests with Blake Signal proving too strong for Aaron Wilson 21-11 while Kirsten Griffen defeated Tweed Head’s Kristy Thatcher 21-16. New Zealand’s other development category win came in the form of a 16-9 victory to their Sheryl Pearce-skipped women’s fours combination. The host nation’s only success in this morning’s development action came via 14-10 win in the men’s fours team of Matthew Baus, Sean Ingham, Andrew Howie and Dylan Fisher. Australia’s other two match victories this morning to take their day’s tally to three of the eight matches played came courtesy of their boy’s singles and fours disciplines. Coolangatta’s Braiden Leese had to fight extremely hard for his win over Temuka’s Keanu Darby eventually prevailing 21-20 while Dylan Skinner, Michael Sims, Corey Wedlock and Joshua Corless combined to beat their international opponents 13-10 in another tight match. New Zealand claimed both the girls under 18 matches in the singles and fours with Canterbury’s Katelyn Inch enjoying a 10-shot win 21-11 over Elizabeth Allan in the singles and their fours team winning 15-10 over Australia’s junior girl’s fours outfit. New Zealand concluded the morning with a 29-shot overall advantage on this morning’s results alone – 18 in the development matches and 11 across the four under 18 The open and para-sport disciplines enjoyed a relaxed morning on the banks with no pay schedule this morning as their first match is being played from midday and they will take to the rinks for a second time tonight during the event’s only twilight session commencing at 5.45pm.
