Woodrow and Browell appointed Historians
Bowls Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Laurie Browell and Geoff Woodrow for the role of joint Historians.
Browell and Woodrow will work collectively with Bowls Australia to maintain and develop historical archives by actively sourcing new items for inclusion and assisting with the public’s request for archive information.
Both Browell and Woodrow are lovers of bowls and whilst they already spend countless hours contributing to bowls administration, they were both keen to work with Bowls Australia in a different capacity.
Laurie Browell is the chairman of Junior Bowls Development for Eastern Ranges Bowls Region and has 17 years of experience working with databases which was as desirable attribute for this position.
Browell is also the Coordinator for Bowls Victoria’s School Challenge each year and is presently trying to expand it across the whole of Victoria.
“I have always been interested in history and when I saw the position of Historian advertised I felt it would be a great challenge to make Bowls Australia’s history available to people worldwide,” Browell said.
Geoff Woodrow has been an active lawn bowler for over 30 years with five generations of his family playing bowls; he has been involved in club administration as a President, Selector, Games Director, Coach and Level 2 National Umpire to name a few.
His background prior to retirement was in the area of intelligence analysis and information management using IT.
Since retirement his main concentration has been website construction and graphic design whilst still keeping in touch with database design and information management.
“I was forced into early retirement in 2008 after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease,” Mr Woodrow said.
“Whilst my ability to speak has now virtually disappeared, I am still able to get around and do most things without too much difficulty.”
“I have always been keen to put back into the sport more than I take, and for this reason I have always been actively involved in all facets of the game.”
Geoff and Laurie were incredibly strong candidates who will help make a positive impact on the game of bowls.
