Success in the west

Adams and Mitchell are becoming household names in Western Australia, not only from their television appearances for Australian Premier League franchise the Perth Suns but for their success on the greens in the west.

Clive Adams (Cambridge) and Tom Mitchell (Victoria Park Carlisle) were jointly awarded the Rosenthal Medal as the Men’s Bowler of the Year for 2014/15 at the Bowls WA Awards Night at Crown Perth hosted by ABC Perth’s Russell Woolf.

Remarkably this was the first time in the 52 year history of the Rosenthal Medal that dual winners were awarded; now the pair join only a handful of other players who have won the award on multiple occasions.

Tom Mitchell claimed his third Rosenthal Medal (2001, 2014 and 2015) whilst Clive Adams added a second (2004 and 2015) after yet another stellar year on the greens.

It is tradition that a past winner of the Rosenthal Medal has the opportunity to announce the winner and this year a Western Australian legend Geoff Ellis (1988 and 1995 winner) was given the honour.

Noelene Abe won the Connie Hicks Brooch as the WA Women’s Bowler of the Year; Abe won all the major female awards this year which included back-to-back Champion of Champion Singles.

Abe is a long standing WA representative and just last year she represented Australia at the World Champion of Champion Singles in New Zealand; this was her 4th WA Bowler of the Year Award in just 5 years.

With the Australian Premier League just 5 months away the Perth Suns are preparing to name Jeremy Henry’s replacement at the conclusion of the Australian Open.

The Perth Suns were semi-finalists in 2014 but after the recent announcement that Jeremy Henry would be changing allegiances to join the XXXX Brisbane Gold, Perth Suns have been on the lookout for a replacement ever since.

The rumour mill is circulating the names of a number of possible new recruits; however the decision might come down to a strong performance at the Australian Open.
