Round 3 in Review

BCiB Metro Pennants Another big weekend of bowls draws to a close meaning we all have to get back to work. It was harder for us all to see what happened this weekend with no results in the Sunday Times due to technical difficulties. The results are available on the Bowls WA website and are complete with rink scores, full sides and ladders. In addition we’ve got your Monday bowls fix right here to get you through the daily grind.
It was a badge-less week this week with no rinks raising the bat for a half century and no reports of any eights coming in at the time of publication – although we heard one was saved with the last bowl in the North Beach v Yokine 2nd Division game. Still there were plenty of big wins around Perth on Saturday and none bigger than Hollywood-Subiaco’s 62 shot win over Dalkeith-Nedlands in 5thDivision Blue. The win is even more impressive since the side out did all the four rink sides of the higher divisions. It was a busy division in 5th with the top five rink wins all coming from the division. Of those five scores four of them were from the Blue colour but it was the Kwinana rink of O’Rourke, Chatley, Passmore and Grantham in White that was number one. Their 33 shot win in their game against Warnbro set up a 36 shot away victory for the Klippers.
The closest overall division of the day was 3rd Division Pink in the women’s competition. The division had a largest rink win of just six shots and a biggest aggregate win of nine. This was closely followed by men’s 5th Division Purple who had a ten shot win as its most comprehensive rink margin and a largest aggregate win of thirteen.
The first Friday night fixture turned out to be an absolute nail biter up at Kalamunda in 1st Division white. South Perth looked well in control more than ten shots up with five ends to play but a big finish for the home side got them across the line. A big part was the Rod Cooper skippered rink that picked seven shots in their last two ends.
A couple of tight finishes in Premier League as well with Cambridge nearly dropping their home game to Kardinya. The Kats lead by eight shots with four ends to play and were in front on the two rinks still playing. A four for Pieter Harris on his last end was immediately followed up with a four to Clive Adams to square the aggregate. The Adams rink then picked up two’s on their last two ends to steal the aggregate and their rink. Meanwhile at Doubleview Charlie Slavich and his rink were playing the last two ends of the game needing seven shots against Steve Srhoy’s rink to win the aggregate against Cockburn. A four on the second last end gave them a chance but on the last end Slavich was only holding one and was forced to try to kill the end, he took out his shot bowl to drop six and lose the aggregate by nine.
Don’t forget you can send us your funny moments on the bowls green and we might include them in the Round in Review, just make sure we get them by midday next Monday. Email to enquiries@bowlswa.com.au
