Round in Review

BCiB Pennants rd7 The first weekend of bowls for summer however it was a dark and gloomy day over Perth on Saturday with plenty of rain falling in the metro area, fortunately most clubs managed to get their games completed. Winners may have been cheered up but their opponents may have found it a typical wet and miserable day.
Whilst play was able to take place at most venues some clubs weren’t as lucky. Strangely they weren’t concentrated in any area, with some clubs washed out whilst their neighbors played. For example Warnbro were unable to complete their scheduled fixtures whilst Safety Bay did. Clubs that were washed out were Belmont City, Warnbro, Kalamunda, Maylands, Bullsbook, Valley, Kwinana and Rockingham. Other clubs were forced to start late or experienced interruptions but completed their fixtures.
This week’s biggest aggregate victory was North Beach’s 72 shot win over Morley in 3rd Division Gold. The win included three rink margins of over 20 shots including a round high rink victory of 33 shots by Kenneth Sutcliffe, Mal Dempsey Snr, Edward Ishak and Mathew Perrett. Anton Riegger’s 21 shot win and a Terence Gmeiner’s winning margin of 20 ensured that the aggregate was never in doubt. Morley were at least able to take a point with a two shot victory on an otherwise miserable day for the side.
In the women’s competition both the largest aggregate and rink win also came from the same side. Doubleview’s 2nd Division Lime side were victorious 38 shots in their game over Scarborough, primarily set up by a 26 shot win by Jillian Parnell, Nell Parer, Mary Coyle and Janet Stewart. Complimented by a 12 shot win by Jocelyn Butler’s rink Doubleview cruised to victory.
