BPL Cup into finals

by admin on August 12, 2018

The BPL Cup competition will boast added impetus this year, with two teams from each state now afforded the prize of a return trip to the National Finals at Queensland’s Club Pine Rivers.

Bowls Australia and Club Pine Rivers have confirmed an expanded partnership, in an exciting new development announced today, which will enable six additional teams to attend and compete at the 2018 BPL Cup National Finals; played alongside BPL08 from November 13 to 16.

In last year’s inaugural BPL Cup competition, the winners of the State and Territory Finals were provided return airfares, car hire, accommodation, supporter gear and corporate hospitality to compete at the National Finals.

This year, two teams each from NSW, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania will be awarded the same expenses-paid trip and berth in the National Finals.

As a result of bolstering the number of teams at the National Finals, the Grand Final matches of all six State Finals will no longer be contested, and instead both winners of the semi-final encounters will automatically book their ticket to the national-level of the event.

The BPL Cup is a completely open gender competition for teams of 3 (or 4, with a substitute), with matches played in triples format with the same scoring as the Bowls Premier League (2 sets of 5 ends, with a one end tiebreak). Powerplays are included in this fast paced, fun format of bowls.
Two couples could get together to form a team, families etc – the only rule is that all players must be affiliated to the same club.
For those without a host venue close-by, there are opportunities to travel for a weekend and play in two or even three qualifying events if you wish. All club events will be knockout, in line with the fast format.
Entry for a qualifying event is $60 per team, and you can enter directly online.
