Dyenamic State Fours Day 1&2 wrap

The first weekend of the Dyenamic WA State fours has now been completed and we are now down to our semi-finalists.

With 93 per cent of the field now been eliminated and we are down to our final eight sides, four men and four women, who will compete on the final day at Manning Bowling Club next Sunday.

None have been more impressive than Helen Morss, Therese Hastings, Laura Merz and Lisa Smith.

Going for a three-peat they’ve been in super form with a smallest winning margin of 13 from their first four matches in the tournament.

Their first day was so good that they had a sectional percentage of nearly 400.

They’ll play against Karen Miller, Cathy Taylor, Beryl Cooper and Karen Dye who are in great form of their own after defeating Kristina Krstic’s highly fancied rink in the quarter-finals.

Krstic’s side were potentially holding enough to draw on the last end but Miller drew shot to win the game.

On the other side of the draw Lisa Featherby, Linda Warburton, Denise Kelly and Trish Cunningham made it through a tough section on shots before belting Kerry Andersen 20-1.

That fantastic performance sees them play Shari Solly, Robyn Jolly, Sue Hogg and Helen Heal in the other semi-final.

Solly’s side did enough to get up in each of their sectional games before a good quarter-final win against the always tough Kaye Blackwell.

There is only one semi-finalist in the men’s draw that hasn’t lost a game.

Anthony Williams, Aj Heal, Bill Brandsma and Nathan Jones have had arguably the toughest run into the semis of any side but have come through it with flying colours.

They first got through a very tough section before defeating Tom Mitchell, Shane Knott and Mark Simpson in the round of 16.

They also put away a very dangerous Brad Ball comfortably on their way to the semi-final.

They’ll face another tough test against the 2016 State Fours winners Steve O’Neill, Pat Caffell, Kevin Pickering and Ian Lilburne.

After losing their first game to Joe Rollnik by 11 shots they recovered well to win their second game by 25.

This gave them the shots to capitalize on a Rollnik loss in the final game and make it through.

They then had a good win against Kyle McIlroy before going to an extra end to beat Willy TePania by a single shot to book their place at manning.

In the top half of the draw Neale Griffin, Mitch Biglin, Adrian Durrant and Farley Anderson also overcame a first game loss to make it out of their group.

They were very impressive in their round of 16 match before beating giant killer Grahame Maesepp 12-9 to make the semi-final.

Their opponents and the last semi-finalists are Clive Adams, Cameron Harris, Neil Bolton and Luke Bolton.

They had a loss in their section as well but played the section leader Matt Pennington in the final game to give themselves a chance. They made up nine shots in the last two ends to make it through the section.

Late flourishes were a theme of their knockout play as well, coming from behind in their round of 16 game and powering away from Neil Marsh in the second half of their quarter-final to make the semis at Manning next week.

The women’s semi-final will kick off at 9:30 with the final estimated to begin around midday.

The men will start later at 11:30 with the final scheduled around 2:00.
