2022 IRRR WRAP
The 2022 Women’s Inter Region Round Robin (IRRR) was played over the weekend of April 30 and May 1 at Warwick Bowling Club as host venue for Northern Region. Each of the four metropolitan regions rotate hosting the annual IRRR event.
Fierce competition ensued with the regions fighting for the honor of winning the 2022 competition. Regions include Northern, Eastern, South Coastal, and Southern:
Each region has six teams who play the other regions in a round robin format – this covers the first three rounds of the competition over Saturday and Sunday morning – twenty-four teams playing 12 concurrent games!
Southern was ahead in the first round with 4 wins and a +28 margin against South Coastal, to Northern’ s 4 wins and a +7 margin against Eastern; however, Northern bounced back with a vengeance in round two to beat Southern in every single game – coming away with 18 points and +53 margin – and considering that Northern won overall round robin games with 39 points and a +60 margin, you can see that the bulk of their win came from game two!
Highlights of the games included two teams who won all three games – L Rughoobur’s team in the North and K Hudson’s team in the East.
Playing 36 games all up, there were 12 teams who won two out of three of their games:
Badge presentations for the 24 players and managers/selectors for Northern region were done by Norma Samuel, past president of WALBA, and current Vice Patron of Bowls WA.

Following on from the regional round robin games is the ALL STAR GAME on Sunday afternoon. During regional play all the selectors are viewing their players with an eye to selection in the All Star Game, played on Sunday afternoon, where the best of the best plays off in timed round robin games to end the weekend tournament.
Quite often different regions win the two different sets of games; however, 2022 was not going to be one of those years with Northern region continuing their strong play into the All Star game winning with 13 points and a +23 margin, Southern coming second at 9 points and -4 margin, closely followed by South Coastal also with 9 points but a mere 3 shot point difference at a -7 margin, and rounded out by Eastern with a 4 points and -12 margin.

Congratulations to all the players, selectors, managers, host venue, greenskeepers, kitchen workers, and other volunteers who work together to make such a great event run smoothly.
Next year brings the event back into the Eastern Region who last hosted in 2014 due to rain washing out their 2018 event, and Covid cancelling the 2020 event pushing out the rest of the event rotations!
