Semi-finals for two West Aussies in the Fours

by Clive Adams on June 21, 2023

A mixed day on the greens for WA today, with Laura Butler’s outstanding performance in this year’s Australian Open Women’s Singles coming to an end at the hands of perhaps the greatest female player in the world at the moment, Kelsey Cottrell.

Butler played an outstanding match, forcing Cottrell to play to a very high standard to get the win.  A couple of crucial results went against Butler, and that was enough to create a gap she simply couldn’t bridge.

In the women’s fours, Kristina Krstic’s powerhouse crew of Ellen Ryan, Ellen Falkner and Brianna Smith continued their winning way, booking a place in tomorrow’s semi-final, while Butler also advanced alongside Chloe Stewart, Katelyn Inch and Olivia Cartwright.  With the two teams in opposite sides of the draw, there’s still a chance for both to make the final.

In the Over 60’s events, just one West Aussie pair remain.  Lisa Featherby and Linda Warburton remain in the quarter-finals of the Over 60s Women’s Pairs following a one shot victory in the final game of the day, defeating the talented pairing of Sharyn Renshaw and Beth Quinlan.

Callum Alberti was impressive in his section of the Under-18’s Boys’ Singles winning all three matches, 21-17, 21-12, 21-10, against quality opposition to advance to the knockouts, and will play again tomorrow.
