Sunday’s Blitz results leave it tight at the top

The Bowls Blitz took centre stage again on Sunday as WA’s best try to impress the selectors enough to earn the coveted spots for a home Sides Series as part of the Nationals in October. Given the awful Perth weather over the past few weeks, the Joondalup greens still ran well, considering, and with the great coverage on all four greens, confidence is high as the Nationals continue to draw closer.

After Sunday’s results, it is now a tight run for finals, with just the top two to play off for Blitz glory this Sunday. This week’s final day will see two more rounds of crucial qualifying matches before moving into the final round.

After day one of the event, it was the Enforcers, Sharpshooters and Cyclones sitting in third, fourth and fifth place respectively. After last Sunday’s day two action, all three of those teams scored big points to move into finals contention. The Stars didn’t have an ideal day, but remain in second place on the table courtesy of a huge day one. The Chargers and the Pirates look too far back to challenge for finals, but there’s still plenty to play for this coming Sunday at Sorrento.

As an indication of how close the competition really is, only the Enforcers had players go through Day 2 winning all their games. Cameron Green, Richard Schinzig, Lisa Smith and Steve Novak all went through unscathed, with a few others recording all wins and a draw.

The final day of the 2023 Blitz comes this Sunday, the 30th July at Sorrento where our champions will be crowned.
